MKH 800 TWIN Sennheiser’s Dual-Capsule Microphone
The MKH 800 TWIN is a dual-capsule microphone that provides two separate sound signals at the microphone output. This means that the pick-up pattern does not have to be set at the microphone before the recording but can be remotely fine-tuned and corrected at the mixing console under monitoring conditions, and even during post-production. Its compact design allows the MKH 800 TWIN to be placed inconspicuously — a particularly important requirement for film scoring and live recordings. The microphone is available either in a nickel colour or, especially for film and live recording applications, with a dark grey non-reflective Nextel coating…
MKH 800 TWIN opens up new dimensions
in recording
Its name is a clear sign of its pedigree: Sennheiser’s new studio microphone, the MKH 800 TWIN, is based on the legendary MKH 800 RF condenser microphone, and opens up completely new dimensions for sound engineers in broadcasting, studio recording and film scoring.

MKH 800 TWIN Ni “The infinitely variable pick-up pattern enables sound engineers and recordists to try out new settings with minimum effort and to optimise the sound at the mixing console,” explained Sebastian Schmitz, Sennheiser’s Product Manager for microphones. “Any intermediate stage between the individual pick-up patterns is possible.” The signals of the two highly linear push-pull transducers are fed separately to the mixing desk. The pick-up pattern is then generated as required by adjusting the fader setting and signal phase.

“The sound of the MKH 800 TWIN is similar to that of our new MKH 8000 series,” Sebastian Schmitz continued. “It offers fine resolution and a natural, warm sound with exceptional neutrality and transparency.” The new member of the MKH family also features extremely low self-noise, ensuring that even the finest sound structures and spatial depth are
clearly audible. The frequency response extends to 50,000 Hz, thus ensuring great resolution for complex acoustic details, especially for high-quality digital audio formats with high sampling rates. The selected pick-up pattern remains almost completely constant over the entire frequency range.
Its compact design allows the MKH 800 TWIN to be placed inconspicuously — a particularly important requirement for film scoring and live recordings. The microphone is available either in a nickel colour or, especially for film and live recording applications, with a dark grey non-reflective Nextel coating.
