Pioneer Announces S-4EX Bookshelf and S-8EX Centre Speakers

The S-4EX bookshelf and S-8EX centre speakers, constructed with the same award-winning design technology as last year’s S-3EX tall boy speakers, these smaller sized multi-channel solutions bring the high definition audio experience to life. Pioneer introduces smaller format speakers to round out high-end multi-channel system

Pioneer GB announces two new high-quality loudspeaker sets to complement its EX Speaker Series: the S-4EX bookshelf and S-8EX centre speakers. Constructed with the same award-winning design technology as last year’s S-3EX tall boy speakers, these smaller sized multi-channel solutions bring the high definition audio experience to life. Together with the S-3EX tall boy speakers, Pioneer now provides a complete high-end multi-channel system to fulfil the needs of the most demanding audiophiles.

S-4EX

Engineered for the purest sound, Pioneer’s new high-end speakers inherit the design philosophy and build of the previous EX Series speakers which were the result of over 70 years of superior craftsmanship and experience.

S-8EX

Designed around Pioneer’s critically acclaimed Technical Audio Devices (TAD), the most advanced materials have been used in order to deliver an unparalleled audio performance. The renowned design technology includes a ceramic graphite diaphragm tweeter mounted concentrically within a magnesium coned midrange driver and the Precision Curve cabinet design that functions to enclose the listener in a ‘virtual sphere’ of surround sound perfection. Superior Speaker Construction
The outstanding sound produced by the EX Series Speakers is a direct result of the solid construction and the finest materials used in their creation. Both loudspeakers incorporate TAD’s exclusive concentric tweeter/midrange driver technology, which generates an extremely clear and consistent sound. The tweeter diaphragm is composed of ceramic graphite, one of the lightest and most rigid materials available, providing top-level strength and dampening characteristics. Ceramic graphite’s lightness and exceptional strength push the diaphragm resonance far beyond the audible range, which results in a cleaner and more accurate sound reproduction. Thanks to this improvement, the new Pioneer speakers can reproduce the very high frequencies of DVD Audio and SACD formats.

The bass driver serves as the foundation of the S-4EX and S-8EX speaker systems. With its extremely rigid cone structure, highly linear magnetic circuit and solid aluminium basket frame, this woofer performs strong, deep and fast bass, as well as fluent transitions to the midrange driver. The magnetic circuit is the engine of a driver. To get outstanding bass, it must not only be powerful, it must be able to keep this power constant as well. Pioneer’s unique Linear Drive Magnetic Circuit is optimised to increase the unit’s power handling capability and keep the very high dynamic of a real instrument’s low frequencies. The cone, dust cap and bobbin of the woofer are all tied together in a ‘Triangle Structure’ which is well-known for its superior rigidity. Combined with the aramid and carbon fibre of the cone, this construction is extremely strong, which significantly improves sound reproduction capability.

Both loudspeakers support an impressive 160 watts of total power.

Innovative Cabinet Design
With the tweeter/midrange and bass drivers perfected, an equally ingenious enclosure was created to provide them with a stable base. The EX series cabinets are crafted from multiple layers of curved, laminated MDF. Pioneer’s Precision Curve Design makes them more robust and rigid than straight counterparts. The curved enclosures resist the sound generated from within the cabinet to decrease distortion. Additionally, the products feature Perfect Time Alignment Design, where the front baffle surface is curved with a 3m radius that, along with a backward slope, ensures perfect time alignment of sound delivered to the listener from all the speakers in a multi-channel system, creating the ideal audio experience.

To eliminate vertical standing waves - responsible for uneven, boomy or sucked out bass response - Pioneer has developed the unique ABD (Acoustic Balance Drive) simulation technology. ABD allows for the port and bass drivers to be placed in the best position to cut the influence of the first vertical standing wave. The second vertical standing wave is cancelled by an internal resonator using our proprietary AFAST (Acoustical Filter Assisted System Tuning) technology. The result is precise and dynamic bass with no low midrange colouration.

For a striking appearance, these smaller format audiophile-quality speakers have been given a fitting finish. The S-4EX and S-8EX speakers come in elegant beech high-gloss veneer or a dark teak matte finish. One thing is certain; both the models will cut an impressive figure in any setting.
